يدور الحديث يومياً بين أصدقائي العرب في الغرب عن الإسلام و العرب والسياسة الشرق أوسطية والدولية، بينما نرتشف أنواع القهوة التي تقدمها محلات "ستار بوك" المشهورة و التي اصبحت موجودة على كل منعطف في المناطق السكنية والتجارية في الولايات المتحدة. و يأخذ الإسلام حصة الأسد من الحديث. و بشكل طبيعي و إنسياقي نجر بعضنا البعض إلى وضع النقاط على الحروف و تعريف الإسلام كديانة أو دولة أونظام حياة إجتماعية. و من هنا تشتد الأراء وتعلو الأصوات و نجد أنفسنا في دوامة من الصياح والضجيج لم يعد بإمكان أي منا سماع الأخر، ومن كلمة إلى أخرى تخرج الألقاب من أفواه بعضنا البعض لتقع على مسامِعُنا وتُشعلُ مشاعرنا وتعود أصواتنا بالإرتفاع بنبراتها لتصل إلى أعلى حدود لم يسبق لحنجرة بشرية بالوصول إليها. وبدون شعورتنقسم مجموعتنا الصغيرة على حسب معتقداتها إلى عيّنة مصغرة من الشعوب العربية لتجد منا المؤمن والملحد والإسلامي والعلماني والمتطرف والمعتدل والقومي والوطني والثوري والسلمي. كل ذلك في غضون بضع ساعات من الكلام الذي يترك كل منا في خندقه متربطاً بأفكاره و أرائه أكثر من ماكان عليه منذ بدء الحديث و ليعود

Following up on my previous post "Academic Terrorism" I found this article on the net that brings to the front some of the tactics used in US media to terrorise and scilence any critic who dares to speak up against Israel. Despite the well publicised myth regarding the outlawed position of slavery in Islam since the seventh century, yet to my surprise I found that not only most Islamic States have allowed the salve trade to go on without resriction, but most have also encoureged it and some have even resisted the call for ending it. I have listened and watched some of the latest interview of Dr. Wafaa Sultan last week on Aljazeera TV channel. Despite some of my friends anger and objections to the points Dr. Sultan brought up on the program regarding Islam and Muslim behaviors in general, I can not help but extend my most heartfelt gratitude and thanks to Dr. Sultan on her courageous and articulate thoughts she had expressed. Thomas Payne, the famous American revolutionary, once said "These are the times that try men's souls." I strongly believe without an inner awakening of our people, we as Arabs need our own Payne who can lead us out of the dark ages we are in and towards the lights of knowledge. Kudos to Dr. Sultan, for people like her with honest and straight forward thinking can start to make a difference in our world.
